Law Studies 12 introduces the student to the legal rights and responsibilities, which allow citizens to participate more fully in society.
Laws maintain the status quo, but they are also a force for change.
Students will examine how laws have changed over time. Canada’s laws and legal framework affect many aspects of your daily life. The more you understand about these things the easier it is to navigate through daily events. These skills will be helpful to you throughout life.
Life Sciences 11 introduces students to living things and to the taxonomic system. You will learn about how scientists classify living things and features of organisms big and small. There are four main units of study: Evolution and Taxonomy, Cells, Cell processes; Viruses and Microbiology, Plants and Animals.
Students may take this course as part of the EBUS Academy pre-science program. The EBUS pre-science program offers students an opportunity to take online science 11 and 12 courses and access enriched learning opportunities through the University of Northern BC (UNBC). Note: Although this is a Grade 12 4-credit course and counts toward graduation, students will still need to take either “English Studies 12” or “English First Peoples 12” in order to graduate.
Literary Studies 12 allows students to delve more deeply into literature through increasingly complex texts. Students can explore specific themes, periods, authors, or areas of the world through literary works (fiction and non-fiction) in a variety of media. Linking world literature to current events and concerns/topics important to today’s students will:
- increase their literacy skills through close reading of appropriately challenging texts.
- enhance their development of the English Language Arts curricular competencies, both expressive and receptive
- expand their development as educated global citizens
- develop balance and broaden their understanding of themselves and the world
- further refine higher-level thinking and learning skills
This language course is intended for students who have a prerequisite of Mandarin 9 or equivalent.
The course will explore communication, acquiring information, experiencing creative works, and understanding cultural influences. It will also build upon previously acquired knowledge and skills such as the phonetic systems, Chinese characters, commonly used vocabulary, and sentence structures and expressions.
The activities and exercises cover oral/writing expression/comprehension, including use of Hanyu Pinyin. Assessments will include written assignments, oral presentations, quizzes, and projects.
