Our Indigenous Community
This information will be of interest to you if your child is of Aboriginal ancestry and you are interested in Aboriginal Education programs and services.
Aboriginal Ancestry is defined as a school-age student who has self-identified as being of Indigenous Ancestry (First Nations, status and non-status, living either on reserve or off reserve; Métis; and Inuit). Aboriginal identification is made on a voluntary basis.
Additional service and support for school age students is possible when they are self-identified as being of Indigenous ancestry and also receive an appropriate program or service. Unfortunately, cross-enrolled and adult students are not eligible for these supports.
If you are a new EBUS Academy student, you were asked to identify Indigenous Ancestry on your registration form. If you neglected to do this and wish to make such a change, please let us know.
Long time EBUS families may not have been asked for this information. For these families, we ask that you please contact Vice Principal, Mia Moutray, if your son/daughter is of Indigenous Ancestry and you are interested in Aboriginal Education programs and services. If your son/daughter is living on-reserve please provide the Band name (this information is not necessary to be self-identified). Please provide this information by September in order to be eligible.
There are many guidelines for the use of these supports and services. We will work closely with you to plan appropriately. We will be in touch with you in the early Fall to discuss possible programs and/or services for your child.
