Physics 12 explores the world of motion and fields. It is designed to build on the knowledge the student gained in physics 11.

The course focuses on four big ideas. Measurements of motion depends on our frame of reference. Forces can cause linear and circular motion. Momentum is conserved within a closed isolated system. Forces and energy interactions occur within fields.

Physics 12 emphasizes real-life applications and helps students connect their learning to the world around them.

Several virtual labs deepen student understanding of content and scaffold important lab writing skills. There is also one final home project that expands on one or more areas from the course. Physics 11 should be taken prior to physics 12 to ensure all necessary skills are developed.

Students may take this course as part of the EBUS Academy pre-science program. The EBUS pre-science program offers students an opportunity to take online science 11 and 12 courses and access enriched learning opportunities through the University of Northern BC (UNBC). Science 10 introduces main topics from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science. This will form the basis for further studies in future grades and provide students with knowledge to find areas of interest. This course has four main units of study: DNA, Genetics and Natural Selection; Chemical Reactions and Radioactivity; Law of Conservation of Energy; The Universe.

The goal of the Grade 7 Science program is to enable students to appreciate the scientific frame of mind – what it means to be a scientist and to actually do science.  The broad questions are:

1) How does a scientist explore and understand the natural world?

2) How is scientific knowledge different from other ways of understanding?

3) How do we actually ‘do’ science?

These questions will be explored by studying the topics of Physics, Biology, Earth Science and Chemistry.

The goal of Science 8 is to provide all students the opportunity to explore the grade specific big ideas in the major branches of science –   biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth/space science-  leading to a deep understanding of science concepts, while further developing their communication, thinking, personal and social skills. Students will be able to demonstrate their learning of the big ideas as they develop their own inquiries using the scientific method. Students will make connections with their new learning, personal curiosities and passions and their community (place of learning).

The goal of Science 9 is to provide all students the opportunity to explore the grade specific big ideas in the major branches of science –   chemistry, reproduction electricity, and earth/space science-  leading to a deep understanding of science concepts, while further developing their communication, thinking, personal and social skills. Students will be able to demonstrate their learning of the big ideas as they develop their own inquiries using the scientific method. Students will make connections with their new learning, personal curiosities and passions and their community (place of learning).

Science for Citizens 11 prepares students for science in the work place and focuses on real-world, practical applications of science.

The course focuses on helping students build skills around three big ideas: scientific processes and knowledge impact our daily lives and decisions; how scientific technology and knowledge is used in the workplace; and an understanding of science that enables us, as citizens, to respond and adapt to change on a local and global level.

The course delivers instruction through videos in which students can make notes. There are assignments, chapter tests and projects in which students will apply their understanding and develop competencies.

Students may take this course as part of the EBUS Academy pre-science program. The EBUS pre-science program offers students an opportunity to take online science 11 and 12 courses and access enriched learning opportunities through the University of Northern BC (UNBC). Specialized Science 12 – Astronomy explores the universe.

It covers topics you hear about in the news, including our solar system and exoplanets, the Sun and neutrinos, stars and stellar evolution, black holes and gravity waves, galaxies and dark matter, The Big Bang and the structure of the universe, and space exploration.

The course focuses on four big ideas:

  • Astronomy seeks to explain the origins of the universe and interactions of celestial bodies (Earth Science)
  • An object’s motion can be predicted, analyzed and described (physics 11)
  • Forces interact within fields and cause linear and circular motion (physics 12)
  • Elements and compounds have specific properties (chemistry 11)

Astronomy is designed with a number of hands-on labs and projects to help students connect with the distant universe. Many models are also used to allow students to understand space through everyday life connections.

This course cannot be used toward Adult Graduation Credits

This course will examine some of the common diseases and treatments for domestic animals.  This 4 credit course does not count as a science credit, but is an applied skill.
