Subject: General Electives

This language course is intended for students who have a prerequisite of Mandarin 9 or equivalent.

The course will explore communication, acquiring information, experiencing creative works, and understanding cultural influences. It will also build upon previously acquired knowledge and skills such as the phonetic systems, Chinese characters, commonly used vocabulary, and sentence structures and expressions.

The activities and exercises cover oral/writing expression/comprehension, including use of Hanyu Pinyin. Assessments will include written assignments, oral presentations, quizzes, and projects.

Philosophy 12 is an academic course that prepares students for academic post-secondary studies.

Students will complete five units on various topics.  Students will engage in philosophical discussion in forums via key word posts, complete unit learning guides and unit inquiry projects. The course has no textbook, and instead uses engaging videos to introduce topics, with readings alongside for further study.

This course cannot be used toward Adult Graduation Credits

Psychology 12 can be taken on its own or as a continuation of Psychology 11. It surveys the topics on history of psychological thought, research in psychology, developmental psychology, psychological disorders, methods of therapy, and neuroscience and biological foundations from a Western World’s point of view to various cultures, including an Aboriginal’s view. This course is best suited for students with strong writing skills and the self-motivation necessary to work well independently.

The Core Spanish curriculum endorses, what is commonly referred to as, the communicative experiential approach.

In this approach, the focus of instruction is the purposeful use of the language to perform real-life tasks, share ideas, acquire information, and get things done. Grammar instruction plays a supportive role – to provide useful strategies to facilitate communication and comprehension.

In this course, students develop the skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and interacting.  They also learn about the important role grammar and culture play in gaining a deeper understanding of language.

In this course, you will be required to log 100  hours of activity, hockey or hockey related activity, a character assignment, the importance of making good decisions, a nutrition assignment, and an assignment where you have a choice between skating analysis or game stats.
