English 10: Composition and Focused Literary Studies
This course combines the ELA Composition and Focused Literary Studies curriculums to offer students a way to get all four credits in one course.
Students will complete a discrete Composition unit where they will focus on creating a short story. Beyond that, they will work through 5 other units that explore the core competencies: thinking, communication, personal and cultural identity and personal and social responsibility.
Specifically, students will look closely at the different genres of writing such as poetry, essays, short stories, and the novel. They will dissect them to see what makes them effective.
This course culminates with an independent novel study and a final exam in the form of a self-evaluation.
