Hi everyone, it’s June! We are down to the final full week of classes before the June 15 deadline for course completion this school year. Lots for full time high school students at EBUS to be aware of, please make sure you keep on top of the newsletters and announcements. The last newsletter of this school year will go out by email June 18th.
SUMMER SESSION 2021
EBUS is running summer session in 2021! Registration is open and all the details can be found here https://ebus.ca/summer-ebus-2021/ including the list of courses we will be offering. Many courses are very close to capacity and once full will not be available in summer session. The final deadline to apply is June 15. Be sure to carefully read the requirements and expectations of summer session as they are different that previous years. Be aware we cannot move a current active course on the student dashboards to summer session due to funding policies with the Ministry. I recommend students only take 1 summer course as they must finish the course in 2.5 months, and any students not finished by the deadlines in September will be withdrawn and must retake the entire course.
ACCESSING CURRENT COURSES OVER THE SUMMER BREAK
Good news, you will be able to login to your current regular school year courses throughout the summer. Unfortunately, it will be very quiet in there because teachers will be on summer break so no marking will happen, no setting up exams and no answering emails or moodle messages. Your on-line teachers may be able to help you to access some assignments if you communicate with them prior to July.
Grade 12 students who are more than 60% complete in courses required for graduation may have the option of summer support. Check your homeroom after June 15 for a link to application form.
COURSE SELECTIONS FOR THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR
For full time students with EBUS for the next school year and wanting to do your course selections, we have arranged the following presentations:
For students going into grade 10, your recording is here (please note the presentation is 1 hour 24mins long, the rest is Q&A)
For students going into grade 11, your recording is here
For students going into grade 12, your recording is here
For students considering leaving EBUS for the next school year, I recommend you contact the new school you are considering so you can take care of course selections very soon. If you plan to leave EBUS at the end of June, please be sure to send you advisor a heads up so we can transfer your file. If you are staying with EBUS, all you need to do is course selections before June 28.
An email will be sent to all full time EBUS students in grade 10, 11 and 12 by May 26 2021 with detailed instructions on how to do your course selections in MyEd before June 28. Be sure to check your junk/spam mail folders for the email from firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do not get an email, please contact the EBUS Help Desk after May 26.
GRADUATION ASSESSMENT RESULTS AND REGISTRATIONS FOR JUNE
Students graduating under the 2018 graduation program will need to complete a possible total of 3 assessments to meet graduation requirements; Literacy 10, Numeracy and Literacy 12. The Numeracy and Literacy 10 assessments are happening this school year while the Literacy 12 will be a requirement in the 2021-22 school year. Students planning to graduate in June 2021 must write the literacy 10 and numeracy assessments in June. These assessments must be written under the supervision of a teacher and are written generally in high schools across BC.
EBUS wants to support our students in making their best decisions given these graduation requirements and COVID. If students are not graduating this year, they can wait until the next school year to write an assessment, it is not essential to write in June.
The next session EBUS will arrange for students is June 2021. EBUS can help you find a school close by for you to write in. You can register for that at www.ebusgradassessment.weebly.com and we will do our best to find you a local school to write in.

Online learning can be different than a classroom, so…
what about extensions in courses?
At this time the school year many students are concerned what happens after June 15th and wonder about extensions past that date. Note that assignments handed in on or before June 15 will be marked for the Term 4 and year end report cards. Assignments can be handed in after but teachers cannot guarantee to have them marked for report cards.
If students are considering an extension past the end of June, teachers will consider those from students after June 10. Teachers will be looking at whether the student is continuing to work, even is the progress is slower than desired, is there a detailed plan for assignment and course completion, are parents involved in the discussion and plan and support this, and what is the firm date for course completion. So, do not stop working and handing in assignments, think about a detailed plan that involves your parents and communicate that with your teacher after June 10!
MENTAL HEALTH MINUTE
With the weather improving, temperatures rising and spring spreading across our communities, one of the wise things everyone can do is start getting outside more often. Even with the COVID protocols, outdoor exercise is one of the highly recommended activities to benefit you mentally and physically. Give it a try!
Over the years we have collected a number of free online resources to help with mental health. I encourage you to email me if you have a great free resource not listed here!

Parents, you can access your student’s progress and report cards on the EBUS parent portal: https://my.ebus.ca/parentportal/login.php We recommend parents log in with their student at least once a week to stay actively engaged in their learning and progress. Students, you can access your report cards from your dashboard, look for the A+ icon in the upper right-hand corner. Report cards are published 5 times a year; November, January, March, June and for summer session courses only, September.
As I get asked this often, if your student plans to finish their course(s) by the June deadlines regardless of the start date, they should be about 90+% complete at this time.
