SUMMARY:Drop Everything And Read
DESCRIPTION:On October 22\, 2018 the British Columbia Teacher–Librarians’ Association is challenging all students and teachers in British Columbia to Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) for 20 minutes.  Please join EBUS\, in this challenge. \nThe DEAR challenge began officially in 2008 as an opportunity to celebrate literacy and education. BC Teacher-Librarians believe that access to good literature\, literacy teaching and modelling of reading have contributed British Columbia’s high rankings on in international literacy. Seeing adults set aside work and business for a few minutes of pleasure reading has sent a powerful message to students- Reading can be a priority for all of us! \nSince its inception\, the DEAR challenge has grown into an international event. Every year new far-flung locations have joined the DEAR challenge. Last year many students in BC participated in the DEAR challenge and they were joined by many others. We had reports of a variety of workplaces participating and schools from as far as Kenya and Israel joined the challenge.\nThe BCTLA would like to invite you to join the DEAR challenge this year. On October 22\, 2018 we would like you to set aside the busyness and business of your day for 20 minutes to Drop Everything and Read.

SUMMARY:Orange Shirt Day
DESCRIPTION:EBUS Academy invites you to recognize Orange Shirt Day with us on Friday September 28th. \n  \nOrange Shirt Day is an opportunity for First Nations\, schools\, government and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation. \nOrange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake\, BC\, Canada\, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission\, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. \nEBUS students are encouraged to send in a picture in their orange shirts to their teacher. \nStudents are invited to join us in a v-class reading of the book The Orange Shirt Story on Friday September 28th at 11:00 am. Please join the v-class Friday by clicking on the link: https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/878104845 \nFor more information\, please see the Orange Shirt Day Flyer or contact Nikki Arnold at narnold@sd91.bc.ca
