Hi everyone, I understand the sun is shining across nearly all of BC today, I hope you are using the flexibility of EBUS to enjoy some of it! We are down to the final 8 weeks of classes before the June 15 deadline for course completion this school year. Lots for full time high school students at EBUS to be aware of, please make sure you keep on top of the newsletters and announcements. The remaining newsletters will go out by email May 7 and 21st, then June 4th and the final newsletter for the school year is June 18th.
GRADUATION ASSESSMENT RESULTS AND REGISTRATIONS FOR JUNE
Students graduating under the 2018 graduation program will need to complete a possible total of 3 assessments to meet graduation requirements; Literacy 10, Numeracy and Literacy 12. The Numeracy and Literacy 10 assessments are happening this school year while the Literacy 12 will be a requirement in the 2021-22 school year. These assessments must be written under the supervision of a teacher and are written generally in high schools across BC.
EBUS wants to support our students in making their best decisions given these graduation requirements and COVID. If students are not graduating this year, they can wait until the next school year to write an assessment, it is not essential to write in June. For grade 12 students who must write in June 2021, contact your advisor if you have safety concerns related to COVID.
Results for the January assessment were released on student transcripts March 31. These are accessible on the student transcript with the Ministry of Education website, the Student Secure Web. To access your account, or set one up as a new student, check the homeroom on student dashboards and look for “Creating a Student Account with the Ministry of Education”
The next session EBUS will arrange for students is June 2021. EBUS can help you find a school close by for you to write in. You can register for that at www.ebusgradassessment.weebly.com extended to May 19. Someone from EBUS will respond to your request in May.
You can get all the details at https://ebus.ca/welcome-package/grade-10-12-homeroomnews/graduation-assessments-provincial-exams/
SUMMER SESSION 2021
EBUS will be running summer session in 2021! Registration opens May 3 2021 on our website and all the details can be found here https://ebus.ca/summer-ebus-2021/ including the list of courses we will be offering. Be sure to carefully read the requirements and expectations of summer session as they are different that previous years. Be aware we cannot move a current course on the student dashboards to summer session due to funding policies with the Ministry.
COURSE SELECTIONS FOR THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR
For students continuing with EBUS for the next school year and wanting to do your course selections, we have arranged the following presentations:
Tuesday May 18 10:30AM Pacific – students going into grade 10
Tuesday May 18 1:30PM Pacific – students going into grade 12
Thursday May 20 1:30PM Pacific – students going into grade 11
The weblink for all three of these presentations is found here
See the Vclass Tutorial – Grades 7-12 document for setting up your audio in Collaborate.
For students considering leaving EBUS for the next school year, I recommend you contact the new school you are considering as they will be doing course selections much earlier, often around now. If you plan to leave EBUS at the end of June, please be sure to send you advisor a heads up so we can transfer your file. If you are staying with EBUS, all you need to do is course selections in May.
IMPORTANT – CHANGE TO OUR COURSE ACCESS IN JULY & AUGUST 2021
In the summer of 2021 and going forward, our regular school year computer servers will be down for annual maintenance. This means students who start courses from September until now in the school year, will have no course access from the end of June until the beginning of the next school year. This will not affect our annual Summer session program as that will be run on a separate server. We encourage all students to finish their course work by the June 15 deadlines for a variety of reasons, but if necessary, students can continue into the fall with no penalty. Please note we cannot move students from “school year” courses to “summer session” courses due to ministry funding policies. Any questions or concerns, please contact your academic advisor.
MENTAL HEALTH MINUTE
With the weather improving, temperatures rising and spring spreading across our communities, one of the wise things everyone can do is start getting outside more often. Even with the COVID protocols, outdoor exercise is one of the highly recommended activities to benefit you mentally and physically. Give it a try!
Over the years we have collected a number of free online resources to help with mental health. I encourage you to email me if you have a great free resource not listed here!

Parents, you can access your student’s progress and report cards on the EBUS parent portal: https://my.ebus.ca/parentportal/login.php We recommend parents log in with their student at least once a week to stay actively engaged in their learning and progress. Students, you can access your report cards from your dashboard, look for the A+ icon in the upper right-hand corner. Report cards are published 5 times a year; November, January, March, June and for summer session courses only, September.
As I get asked this often, if your student plans to finish their course(s) in a quarterly fashion, meaning by the end of term 3 or on April 19 students should be finished. Those working on a semester fashion should be about 50% complete. And for students working in a linear fashion to complete by the June deadlines, they should be about 80% complete at this time.
