April 1 fulltime grade 10-12 newsletter

April 1 2022

Just a quick note as we head into the final days of Spring Break.  EBUS will open Monday April 4 with teachers back then.

GRADUATION ASSESSMENT

Students graduating under the 2018 graduation program will need to complete a possible total of 3 assessments to meet graduation requirements; Literacy 10, Numeracy and Literacy 12.  These assessments must be written under the supervision of a teacher and are written in high schools across BC.

Results for the January assessment should be available on student transcripts.  These are accessible on the student transcript with the Ministry of Education website, the Student Secure Web.  To access your account, or set one up as a new student, check the homeroom on student dashboards and look for “Creating a Student Account with the Ministry of Education”

The next session EBUS will arrange for students is June 13—17 2022. EBUS can help you find a school close by for you to write in.  Students wanting to write must register in order to find a highschool for you to write at.  Registration information will come in the next newsletter April 15.

You can get all the details at https://ebus.ca/welcome-package/grade-10-12-homeroomnews/graduation-assessments-provincial-exams/

For the required graduation numeracy and literacy assessments, all BC students will need government issue photo ID.  A BCID card or a public school ID card will qualify.  If you need a school ID card please send a current colour photo to Nikki at nvandolah@sd91.bc.ca well in advance of your assessment date.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS GRADUATING

Every year EBUS has up to $40 000 in scholarships and bursaries available for our full-time students who meet graduation requirements by June and the requirements listed in the scholarship booklet.  The booklet was released in the homeroom and at https://ebus.ca/2021-22-scholarship-package/  and the deadline to apply is April 15.  Scholarship winners are announced at graduation.  We strongly recommend all students who will graduate by June apply for any scholarships they are interested in as we often have scholarships not applied for each year.  While EBUS Parent Advisory Scholarships have requirements for the number of courses you need to take with EBUS and how long you have been with EBUS, the District Scholarships do not, so we encourage all students graduating with EBUS to apply for these.  If you have questions contact your academic advisor.

With COVID considerations this year EBUS has booked Van Deusen Gardens in Vancouver on Friday June 3.  To participate, students need to be approximately 75% complete all grad requirements by the end of April.  Notices to all grade 12 students and their parents will be emailed soon.  Depending on interest we will host a grad ceremony in our hometown Vanderhoof as well, if you have not emailed me your interest to attend the Vanderhoof ceremony, please do so by April 4, we will decide after Spring Break if the Vanderhoof ceremony will run.  If you have questions, contact your academic advisor.

SUMMER SESSION 2022

EBUS will be running summer session in 2022 info is found here https://ebus.ca/online-learning-programs/summer-program/ Full time or cross enrolled students can take 1-2 courses with teacher supports in the summer, with the firm expectation to finish by the end of August.  Registration will open May 2 at our website, www.ebus.ca and the list of courses offered will be announced mid-April, but generally nearly all courses are offered.  Note that due to ministry policy, courses started between September and May 1 cannot be moved to summer session.

HEAD START FOR NEXT YEAR – COURSE REQUESTS

For students desiring an extra course at this late time in the year, EBUS is able to provide a few options.  The first is consider a head start for the next school year.  This would require a student to be a very independent student not expecting a lot of teacher support and making limited progress (approximately no more than 30%) by the June 17 school year end deadlines.  In July and August teachers will not be working on this course, so that means no marking, no questions answered and no tests set up.  You would then finish the rest of the course in the fall.

The second option is summer session.  The details of summer session and how to register starting May 2 is found here https://ebus.ca/online-learning-programs/summer-program/  You can take the course with teacher supports in July and August with a firm commitment to finish by the end of August.  This year students who do not complete by the summer session deadlines risk being withdrawn.

When we return next week after Spring Break, it may take longer than average to respond to your messages and catch up on marking, we appreciate your patience during this time.

The next newsletter will be April 15.
