THERE ARE NO GRADE 10 PROVINCIAL EXAMS AS OF JULY 1 2016. THE ONLY STUDENTS WHO NEED TO WRITE A PROVINCIAL EXAM ARE THOSE WHO FINISHED THE COURSE WORK BY JUNE 30, 2016. All other students are NOT able to write the exam, due to Minisitry policy. ONLY A VERY FEW STUDENTS WILL NEED TO WRITE GRADE 10 PROVINCIAL EXAMS, PLEASE READ BELOW.
What provincials do I have in grade 10?
In grade 10, THERE ARE NO PROVINCIAL EXAMS AS OF JULY 1 2016. The only students who need to write a provincial exam are those who finished the course work in ENGLISH, SCIENCE OR MATH 10 by JUNE 30, 2016. ALL OTHER STUDENTS ARE NOT ABLE TO WRITE THE EXAM DUE TO MINISTRY POLICY.
There are three grade 10 exams, English 10, Science 10 and Math 10 (Apprenticeship/Workplace Math 10 and Foundations/Precalculus Math 10). Regardless of the course, the exam is worth 20% of your final grade, so it is important to study and be prepared for the exams. For the course to be completed and show up on your transcript, you need to complete the course work with your teacher at EBUS AND write the provincial exam. The average of these two marks needs to be 50% or better. Passing the provincial does not mean you have finished the course.
When are provincials this year?
Provincial exams have TWO main sessions – January/February and June. January exams will be held between January 23-26. June exams are scheduled between June 22-29. The dates and times for these exams are set by the ministry and school where you are writing the exam, Ebus has no control over when they happen.
When do I have to write the provincial exam?
IF A STUDENT IS NEEDING TO WRITE THE PROVINCIAL (SEE ABOVE) Students have until the June 2017 session to write the provincial exam. However it is recommended you write the exam while the course material is fresh in your mind. Contact me to see what we can arrange.
How do I register for a provincial exam?
Next step is preparing for the exam. If you want to write the January provincial, you need to aim to be 50% or more complete in your course work by DECEMBER 1. For the June exams, you should be 50% or more by May 1. EBUS will set up the exam location, and provide you an email with all of the info you will need for the arrangements. You can register at www.ebusprovincialexam.weebly.com
What if I can’t make my scheduled provincial exam for some reason?
No problemo! But do give me a heads up so I can let the school know as they will be expecting you. Missed exams are not counted against the student.
Ughhh…what if I fail the provincial exam?
Ultimately, you need to pass the COURSE, not necessarily the EXAM. Your final grade in Socials is calculated with 80% coming from the course work and 20% from the exam. When your final grade is calculated, it needs to be 50% or more. If your overall grade is a failing grade, that mark does not show up on your transcript (only courses that are passed show up) and you can either re-write the provincial exam, or retake the course work to upgrade your learning and marks.
